Who we are

Information systems and data science are expanding rapidly in the world, and aiming at boundaries of knowledge and technology in this field is essential in scientific, economic and social development in the coming decades. Along this path, "Sharif Information Systems and Data Science Center", as part of the Institute for Convergence Science and Technology, has been established to create synergy from top talents of Departments of Electrical Engineering, Mathematical Science and Computer Engineering in wide range of data science and inforamtion systems. Benefitting from research potentials of these three departments, in addition to expertise of other colleagues throughout the country and around the world, this center aims at addressing the fundamental needs of industry, policy makers, collaborators and other stakeholders to participate in leading edge research and development in this field. The goal is to become one of top centers in this field in the region in the coming decade and be able to engage top experts from all around the world in such joint endeavor.

Purpose

  • Establishing the required knowledge-based and structured scientific and technological infrastructure (in theoretical, software and hardware aspects) in the field of information systems and data science, and developing leading edge knowledge and technologies with emphasis on interdisciplinary research.

  • Developing the theoretical foundations, solutions, algorithms, technologies and infrastructures necessary for analyzing wide range of information and data from the perspective of systems analysis.
  • Developing the related software and hardware along with presenting scientific and technological innovations by providing effective research results in top international conferences and journals, in addition to intellectual property and patent registrations.
  • Developing and empowering the individuals and focused groups in various aspects related to this field and creating a necessary infrastructure to facilitate access to accelerators and startups in this area for bringing ideas closer to the markets.
  • Improving domestic and international interactions and collaborations, through holding educational and promotional events in this field, with the aim of branding this center at national, regional and global levels.
  • Providing specialized services, including leading edge science and technology consultation in this field.

Our competencies

  • Affiliation with Sharif University of Technology, wich is known as one of the major centers of research and technology in the country and region in the fields of engineering and basic sciences, provides the basis for a strong presence in these areas at national and international levels.
  • Close interaction of Information Systems and Data Science Center with other four centers affiliated with Institute for Convergence Science and Technology, namely bioscience and technology, nanoscience and nanotechnology, quantum science and technology and cognitive science centers, is key for promoting leading edge joint activities in interdisciplinary fields.
